III.  SAMPLE OF STUDENT WRITING

"The Moody Blues"

Oh, little A,
     You are so carefree.
When you're upbeat and positive,
     I am excited, too.
I can't stop smiling
    All because of you.
There is little that I have to do,
    To keep on loving you.

But when you're negative, with nothing good to say,
it reflects in the way that I behave.
My world is turned upside down
I am left with only a big, sad frown.
Days like these, I wonder if
I'll ever get over this hump.

Why can't you make up your mind,
And stop making me change so?
Oh, little A, can't you see
the effect you have on me?
